The Different Types of Laser Hair Removal

By Caleb Liu

The concept of using a laser in order to remove hair has been popular for the past two decades. You may not be aware that there are several different types of laser hair removal that people are taking advantage of. They offer a fast and painless way to remove unwanted hair for both men and women. The process lasts longer and it isn't painful like electrolysis or waxing. Laser hair removal is considered to be a permanent solution to unwanted hair instead of a temporary one like the alternatives.

With the process of laser hair removal small amounts of radiation are administered to the area with a beam of heated light. This results in the hair follicles being damaged to the point where they can no longer allow new hair to grow. Occasionally a few hairs do come back but they are after very few, thin, and very light so they won't be as obvious as they were prior to the laser hair removal.

The first laser hair removal system was called Nd:YAG - while others existed this was the first one approved for use by the FDA. This particular process required the individual to have the area waxed first, which is quite painful. Next a heated lotion was applied to the hair follicles so that they would be damaged. The skin around the area was not harmed.

For individuals with very light skin the Ruby Laser is the best option. It can also be use at low levels for those with darker skin with out causing damage to the pigment. This is a painless type of laser for hair removal. It is common used to remove small amounts of hair.

For larger patches of hair the Alexandrite Laser is recommended. It can is able to penetrate the hairs that are very coarse as well. This is the most common type of laser treatment used on men. The entire back can be cleared of hair in 45 minutes or less. Some technicians rely on the Diode Laser because it is the least expensive one and it can be used on various types of skin.

The newest type of laser hair removal equipment on the market is the Cool Glide. This is a very expensive piece of equipment as well. It has been known to effectively treat even dark skin without any time of damage. The tip of it is refrigerated so that it offers a cool touch as the work is being done. This is also safer than lasers that use heat to harm the hair follicles because they could damage the skin.
